Pioneering Keloid Removal

Keloid removal is widely accepted as a challenging clinical issue. Keloid scars have notoriously high recurrence rates which can be frustrating for practitioners and patients alike.

This high recurrence rate combined with the continued presence of the actual scar itself often has a detrimental impact on the quality of life of many patients presenting with keloid scars.

In the past treatments to treat difficult or large scars have done little to address this recurrence rate, have often had limited effect in removing the scar well enough to address the quality of life issues of the patient, and have often been an intolerable and uncomfortable if not painful experience for keloid patients. 

In recent years these factors have led to the development of cryotherapy as an increasingly popular and increasingly effective tool in keloid and scar removal treatments and therapies. Cryotherapy focuses on targeted destruction of the keloid in question and does so with great precision, allowing for treatment of the keloid without any subsequent damage to the surrounding skin. Cryotherapy that relies on precise application and extended, intralesional penetration into the scar produces the best results in terms of effective keloid removal. 

This also means treatment that is comfortable for the patient, and treatment which avoids painful infections and incisions. This, in turn, means minimal if any wounds following treatment, eliminating at the same time the need, post-treatment, to care for troublesome wounds and potential infections. 

The need for an effective, advanced treatment for keloid removal, that puts at the core of its development and application the optimum care of the patient, led to Salute’s development, with Chaban Medical, of the CryoNeedle, Life by Ice treatment. The Cryoneedle’s uniqueness lies in its moderate freezing and thawing rates which allow for longer application and treatment on the skin, meaning safer and more effective treatment than that provided by fast freezing methods or equipment. It allows for effective treatment with minimal wound and after care.
